Depression

Depression can affect people from all walks of life and people of all ages.  The statistics are alarming. The World Health Organisation estimate that 300 million people worldwide suffer from depression and that during their lifetime approximately 15% of the adult population will experience some form of mental health issue. In the UK its estimated 1-in-4 people suffer. Maybe more.

There are so many things which can trigger an episode of depression, from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), postnatal depression, bullying, bereavement, abuse, serious illness, substance abuse, divorce, to a life-threatening experience, all of which all have a significant bearing on our wellbeing.

Yet there is still stigma surrounding mental health which prevents people from seeking help as they fear they may be judged, it could affect their careers or how people perceive them. This means there is a risk that people become isolated, reducing their interaction with friends, family and work. Symptoms like difficultly sleeping or sleeping too much, self-esteem issues, weight management problems, lethargy and difficulty concentrating combined go unnoticed and undiagnosed. The consequences are increased anxiety which can lead to panic attacks.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can really help people get back control of their lives. We give clients a clear understanding of what is happening in the brain, how and why we can suffer in the way we do. Unlike some other therapies which focus on the problem, we concentrate on helping clients identify small steps and using their own resources to help them behave in a way that is just right for them.
