Phobias

What is an irrational fear or phobia?

Most of us have a fear of something but sometimes it can become so strong it begins to affect our daily lives or prevent us from doing things, it can be extremely distressing. People with phobias often experience unwanted responses to animals, objects, insects, actions or places.

This physical response is known as a stress response; people often describe their reaction to something as being “paralysed with fear” or “having butterflies in my stomach”, “just wanting to run away” from whatever is triggering the response. There are many different phobias – here are just a few

Fear of flying, claustrophobia, mysophobia, fear of sickness (often linked to social phobias)Fear of insects, Fear of heights, Fear of needles, Fear dentists, Fear of Pregnancy, Fear of water.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can really help people resolve their fears and phobias, generally in three to four sessions during which we will explain how the mind works and what happens when we react the way we do to the traumatic situation. We will reduce the underlying anxiety, diminish the emotional trauma and help the sub-conscious mind with new and appropriate behavioural responses.
