Panic attacks and panic disorder

Panic attacks are incredibly debilitating. Having a panic attack can feel like the most frightening thing you have ever experienced. Even the thought of having one can affect your daily life and stop you from doing.

When our body perceives a threat it will set off your security alarm and make your boy go into “fight, freeze or flight” mode. As you try to take in more oxygen, your breathing gets quicker and shallower. Your body starts to release cortisol and adrenaline, causing your heart to beat faster and faster. Then it becomes a vicious cycle as you try to breath harder the more difficult it becomes. Generally some of the symptoms we feel are Your heart rate increases, palms go sweaty and clammy, you may hear ringing in your ears, chest tightens, you can feel nauseous, even dizzy and disorientated – it can literally feel as if you are about to have a heart attack.

Meanwhile your head starts to be full of negative thoughts such as what if I die, embarrass myself, you can feel like people are staring at you and it is literally the end of the world. It can sometimes see like they will go on forever.
